The Lion King II: Simba’s Pride

The Lion King II: Simba’s Pride (1998)

Mulan and A Bug’s Life, yet they were willing to sell out themselves with this?

Brief Backstory

In 1994, Disney released the Lion King, which has often been considered the pinnacle of the Disney Renaissance era that spanned from the second half of the 1980s to the end of the 1990s. Immediately following the success, a sequel was inevitable, but rather than taking effort like they did with Rescuers Down Under, Disney decided to throw it straight to direct-to-video just like the Aladdin series pilot and finale (both of which were good). Although ranked higher than the majority of the other direct-to-video slops and not like some notoriously bad sequels like the Jaws sequels or Superman IV, Simba’s Pride has still been considered a weak movie.

Story

Kiara, Simba’s daughter, deliberately disobeys Simba and falls in love with an outlander named Kova, despite Simba’s animosity toward the Outlands and vice versa with Zira.

Simba’s pride my ass.

Random Facts

Whereas Lion King was inspired by Hamlet, Simba’s Pride was inspired by Romeo and Juliet.

Nathan Lane, who voiced Timon for only a few episodes of Timon and Pumbaa, returns as Timon.

Simba brings up the elephant graveyard, which he was scammed into entering by Scar.

Mr. Enter, a crappy reviewer (dipshit called the Patrick Star Show good) stated that Simba’s Pride was a sequel that didn’t suck.

From left to right: Nala, Simba, Kova, and Kiara.

Random Opinions

Simba might be protective but he’s being a dickhead throughout the movie. If Mufasa saw all of this he just create storms and yell “You deliberately disobeyed me!!” from the clouds.

The hyenas killed Scar, not Simba. Why’s Zira blaming Simba?

This is only about as good as George Pal’s War of the Worlds.

Pros

  1. Million times better than that shitfest live action remake.
  2. Decent retelling of Romeo and Juliet.
  3. Some great lines like Timon’s “get out of our pride lands” line.
“Get out of our pride lands!”

Cons

Zira
  1. Didn’t like any of the songs. Nothing but filler.
  2. Flanderized characters. Simba went from being an amazing role model to being a crooked king.
  3. Zazu’s voice sucks. Doesn’t sound close enough to his original voice.
  4. Animation is a downgrade from the original. Normally I’d be more reasonable but since this wasn’t for an animated series nor something related to something that came out decades earlier, the animation sucks.
  5. Way too many parts are just rip offs of parts from the original such as Kovu and Kiara looking at the sky.

Rating: 4/10 – Poor

Sorry but I didn’t like this. It’s nothing more than just a fanfiction written by drunk furries/bronies. It’s still miles better than many of the other ones.
