Mickey’s House of Villains

Mickey’s House of Villains (2002)

The House of Mouse is history!

Brief Backstory

The “Super Smash Bros.” of Disney, House of Mouse, was a series that hosted cartoons from Mickey’s Mouse Works and even some cartoons from Walt’s time. Several specials were made (not many) featuring the House of Mouse, one of which was Mickey’s House of Villains.

Story

Disney villains usurp Mickey and his pals in a hostile takeover of the House of Mouse.

Random Facts

When Mickey puts on his Sorcerer Mickey outfit everyone looks to the right exactly how the dinosaurs did in Fantasia when the T-Rex appeared.

Some of the cartoons used such as the mechanical house one already existed in the House of Mouse series.

For some reason this isn’t on Disney+. It was on Netflix for a while though.

Our house now, bitches!

Random Opinions

I have to question the leadership in the hostile takeover. Jafar’s a great villain and all, but why not Pete? Pete is the leader of the House of Mouse technically, so why isn’t he the one masterminding this?

Despite the sheer amount of villains we don’t get to see Scar or Shere Khan. Also the crocodile from Peter Pan isn’t a villain. I know the Hyenas turned on Scar after he betrayed them, but they do still count as villains Scar or no Scar.

Villains (excluding Piglet) marching into the house.

Pros

  1. It’s our House Now is amazing.
  2. Great concept.
  3. Decent animation.
Jafar and Captain Hook.

Cons

  1. Okay, exactly what was the point of taking control of the house when all you do is watch more cartoons? Why couldn’t they just use the House of Mouse as a crime syndicate building or a hideout for terrorists? Most of these villains are revered among viewers, so it’s nothing less than a huge middle finger to them!
  2. The cartoons, while good, are filler. This was a central part to House of Mouse but it worked for the series, not this.
  3. Unbelievably anti-climatic final fight where Mickey uses a lamp to trap Jafar. Prior to that, the first part is literally the fight against Agahnim from Link to the Past and recurring fights like that in later Zelda games. I am not kidding.
  4. If you take the cartoons out this is only around 15ish minutes. Pretty lazy if you ask me.
  5. Jafar’s plan is stupid. Why midnight? What’s the big deal?
“Ha ha!! This house is too much for you! I command you return it to me!!”

Rating: 2.5/10 – Terrible

Yes folks, this one’s not very good. Even my first viewing (which was around 2004) was severely disappointing. An idea about Mickey at arms against some of the most evil villains ever created gone to waste.

The rating is not influenced by the cartoons seen in the movie, this is only for the actual House of Mouse part.

I haven’t seen House of Villains in a long time. There’s plenty of villain based movies. I have some picks worth a watch.

Picks – American Psycho, Natural Born Killers, Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker, James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad & A Clockwork Orange.
