Frozen (2013)
Time to freeze up.
Brief Backstory
Still on the CGI crusade, Disney planned for a new movie named Frozen in the early 2010s after the success of Wreck it Ralph.
Upon release, Frozen was critically acclaimed by so many critics, and quickly became one of the “greatest” Disney movies of all time by many viewers.
Some of the song numbers, namely Let it Go, became a beloved song number among the masses.
Story
During a coronation, Elsa accidentally reveals her icy powers, plunging Arendelle into the next ice age. The duke of Weselton demands the murder of Elsa while Prince Hans schemes to hijack control of Arendelle.
Random Facts
The concept of Frozen dated back to the 1940s when Walt Disney was alive.
Frozen won a lot of awards which is typical for most Disney movies.
Random Opinions
Elsa when I first saw this reminded me of the Crystal King from Paper Mario.
Cheap way of showing the death of Anna and Elsa’s parents – they end up dead in a shipwreck.
I heard this was considered the best since the 1990s Disney movies. I fail to see that.
I only saw this once in theaters and didn’t really care much for it, also found it quite depressing.
The duke’s face looks like Professor Hinkle from Frosty the Snowman.
If this takes place in 1843, where’s all the guns? On the other hand showing a gun in an animated movie nowadays would make it PG. Besides it’s historical fantasy.
Pros
- Anna and Elsa are very cute, especially Elsa.
- Visuals are appealing.
Cons
- You couldn’t go one day in 2014 without hearing Let it Go and by the gods it’s not even a good song.
- Actually all the song numbers suck. Sorry.
- Olaf is as annoying as Jar Jar Binks. Hell even Gurgi from the Black Cauldron was no where near as annoying.
- Horrible villains, with Hans being one of the absolute worst in Disney history. He completely out of nowhere goes “if only someone loved you” toward Anna without a single hint throughout.
- This is more of a “me” thing, but why CGI? It doesn’t age well over time, and we already have Pixar in Disney.
Rating: 4/10 – Poor
Same rating as the Black Cauldron, though I will gladly watch that over Frozen. I’d rather be bored than annoyed.
