Bart the Lover
No mercy to detention givers.
Story
After Bart accidentally kills some fish, Krabappel confiscates Bart’s yo-yo and gives him a month of after school detention. In retaliation, Bart sets Krabappel up with a fake boyfriend in a pursuit for justice.
Homer himself also has his own troubles when Flanders catches on to him for profanity while he’s struggling to build a doghouse and attempts to reduce his cursing with the swear jar as recommended by Marge.
Random Facts
The swear jar was also used in Home Movies.
According to the commentary, Homer’s voice actor was actually cursing in the recording session. A little humiliating knowing that kids were there to, but not too big of a deal if you ask me.
Do schools still give out a month or more of detention still? I could’ve sworn the most they’d go is maybe a week or two given some South Park episodes.
Doghouses still exist though very uncommon even in the 90s.
Random Opinions
No I don’t feel bad for Krabappel. One thing to give a week or two of detention (how is that still legal?) but to give a month? No. You already took the yo-yo away and that’s enough discipline. Besides, detention (like spanking) is a lazy punishment that serves no purpose other than to piss off students and make them want to drop out. Anyway Krabappel deserved it. Sorry your idiot student had an accident with some yo-yos, but that doesn’t mean you need steal his own time (which isn’t exactly unlimited you know). Then again this is public school and public schools typically don’t give a fuck about morality. Also yes I know Bart’s a tyrant and absolutely should be punished but something like for example Sword in the Stone where Sir Ector punished Wart/Arthur with chores would be sufficient enough. Hank Hill got that right.
Most of my distaste for detention comes from not my childhood but from dad’s childhood. I don’t care if he did stupid shit when he was a kid; we all did (i admit I did stupid shit when I was younger, such as cybercrime where I broke into my brother and sisters accounts and was doing all their school work.) and detention likely didn’t do donkey dick for him and was only done to make him angry when he was younger. Also I should mention that there was also 3 hours after school detention – no seriously, that punishment existed in middle school when I was in school (it was called Friday night reflections or something) and I still think it does I’ll need to look at a student handbook from at earliest 2021 or something. It was from 4 to SEVEN FUCKING PM Friday – 3 hours after school. What is this? Guantanamo Bay?! No shit our country has issues with kids dropping out of school. If I had a kid and he got 3 hours of friday afternoon detention I’d get vicious.
The subplot with Homer struggling with the doghouse hits much harder as an adult. Trying to build a computer? Struggling with insomnia? You can’t even imagine the frustration that goes with those.
I only know Woodrow Wilson from the Potomac River bridge going into Alexandria Virginia. There exist quite a number of bridges going past that river much like the Mississippi River and its’ numerous bridges (Numerous interstates in St. Louis and Davenport, I-20 in Vicksburg, I-40 in Memphis, I-94 near Minneapolis, etc.).

Animation isn’t as good looking as season 4 but still great. | No writing issues. | Again like most season 3 episodes, nothing too annoying. | A lot of funny lines and great moments like Homer’s swear jar. | I wouldn’t have shown mercy to Krabappel but least it shows that Bart has some mortality. |
Rating: 47/50 – Amazing (9/10)
Another high quality episode.
