Principal Charming

Oh, you were expect Prince Charming?

Story

Bart’s murderous prank toward grass gets him doing hard labor, but Selma’s lonely, so Marge tries to get Homer to find her a mate, who happens to be Skinner. Because of this, Skinner replaces Bart’s punishment with getting him to get married to Selma, only for Bart to capture the school.

SIMPSON!!

Random Facts

A reference to Vertigo is seen when Skinner races up the bell tower to see Bart’s newest “artwork”

Terminator is parodied when Homer tries to find a bride for Selma (this was right before the 2nd came out.).

First appearance of Groundskeeper Willie.

If you look closely at Hans Moleman’s (Aka Ralph Melish) voided license, it appears he’s 70 in this episode. So maybe this was Hans Moleman’s father?

Selma’s struggle as a single would reappear in season 3 with Sideshow Bob and season 7 with Troy McClure, and then later her considering raising children in season 4. There probably exist many other episodes involving this, but the three episodes I mentioned are the ones I’m familiar with.

Although this is more about Selma, it’s also Bart-centered, as typical with season 2.

The school is captured.
Grass has feelings too, Bart.

Random Opinions

Did Skinner’s screaming really end up being that loud or did he scream in the intercom?

The “board of education” doesn’t work as discipline, Skinner. Just saying. Your other method involving him replant the entire field is pretty damn abusive too if you ask me.

Remind me not to use grass killing herbicides…

Of the pranks Bart’s committed, I’d say this is one of his more vicious. Making a part-time worker’s life a bitch doesn’t seem fair.

Black Widower, Selma’s Choice, and A Fish called Selma do a better job of the concept of Selma’s single life, but since this was the first of them, give ’em a break.

Compared to some season 2 episodes, relatively decent looking. Not a big fan of relationship episodes but the Simpsons seems to handle it better than others. While not as great as season 4, definitely one of the better episodes of the season.Great voice acting.Great introduction to Willie.

Rating: 41/50 – Great (8/10)

One of season 2’s better episodes but if you had to pick a Selma episode, go with Selma’s Choice or Black Widower (A Fish called Selma is another good one).
