Toy Story 3 (2010)
Where’s your kid now, Sheriff?
Brief Backstory
Throughout the 2000s, rumors spread of a third Toy Story movie, and this rumor continued to be thrown around until near the end of the decade when Pixar confirmed they were on the move for making Toy Story 3. Delays and other movies in progress led to a 11 year gap between Toy Story 2 and 3, but when it was released in 2010, Toy Story 3 became a smashing success right on the spot, and was considered to be worth the wait. Near universal critical acclaim has made Toy Story 3 considered to be one of the greatest animated movies of all time, just like the first two.
Story
Andy’s off to college, and his toys are to be put in the attic. Because of a misunderstanding, the toys go to a daycare run by the evil Lotso. After enduring the torturous behavior of toddlers, the toys try to bust out and get back home before Andy leaves.
Random Facts
Contrary to beliefs, Pixar had no intentions of Toy Story 3 being a finale.
Ken is voiced by Michael Keaton, known for his portrayal of Batman in the late 80s and early 90s.
Lotso is often ranked as one of the most evil villains in Pixar, often very close to Syndrome from the Incredibles.
Considered to be one of – if not, the saddest Pixar movie created. If it isn’t this one, then typically Up gets mentioned.
Due to Jim Varney’s death, Blake Clark voices Slinky.
Originally there was supposed to be a movie involving a recall of Buzz Lightyear toys. Presumably due to the gap between Toy Story 2 and 3, that had to be shelved.
Random Opinions
I’ll admit it – I prefer the other two Toy Story movies over this one, but not by much. I wasn’t too on board with how depressing this was. Please, don’t judge me. I haven’t seen Toy Story 4 yet – is that any good?
Saving Lotso was a big mistake here. I have no idea what was going through Woody and the gang’s heads when they made that move.
Lotso makes Sid Philips look like a ray of hope. This fucker treats Andy’s toys like prisoners and has Buzz brainwashed. Then of course he ditches them to be left to die.
Pros
- The darker tone is appealing.
- While I find Stinky Pete and Sid to be more memorable, Lotso is another one of Pixar’s best villains and is much more evil, though I personally think Sid’s a little more evil.
- Despite the tone, there’s a lot of humorous moments.
Cons
- The depressing nature makes it harder for me to watch unlike the first two Toy Story movies. An ancient Buster? Only a few toys left? Hot damn. This makes Fox and the Hound look happy-go-lucky!
- I didn’t really care much for Spanish Buzz. We already had Puss ‘N Boots from Shrek.
- WHY would Woody and Andy’s toys bother saving Lotso? They almost got destroyed because of him!!
Rating: 9/10 – Amazing
Another great Pixar movie. Pixar kept the magic touch with Toy Story 3.
