One Fish, Two Fish, Blowfish, Blue Fish

Boy am I going to get in trouble for this one…

Story

Under Lisa’s recommendation, the Simpsons go to eat sushi. Homer eats every type of sushi there, including fugu. Under implication that the fugu was incorrectly cut, Homer is placed under a false belief that he’s going to end up dead in a day.

No Homer, it isn’t good news.

Random Facts

Homer is never in any danger. Even after being told he’s going to die in 24 hours he’s already in the clear. This just comes up as an episode that only exists to be sappy as hell – why not just hit us with one of those mood-draining cannonballs from Courage the Cowardly Dog instead?

George Takei, voice of Mr. Fixx from Batman Beyond guest stars as Akira.

Sab Shimono (Mr. Sparkle) is the voice of the master chef.

Fugu is illegal in a lot of countries (surprisingly America isn’t one of them).

Random Opinions

Of all the types of episode plots, “24 hours left to live” plots are my most hated. They all seem to end the same way – person is told that he isn’t going to get to live to see the next day, but in the end ends up perfectly fine. Some shows have done this okay like Dexter’s Laboratory, SpongeBob SquarePants, and Timon and Pumbaa, but those were 10 minute episodes. This would seem more appropriate for a Treehouse of Horror segment.

Please keep in mind, ratings on this blog are opinion-based, and yours is likely much different from mine. I am aware this episode often ranks as one of the better episodes of season 2 but in my eyes, it ranks as the worst of the season.

Better watch where you’re cutting.

Season 2 is somewhat ugly in contrast to later seasons.“24 hours left to live” plots are some of my most hated types of plots.Cut the sappy shit – we know Homer’s going to be fine. The music in this episode is so depressing that it makes me want to drink Bud Ice.Dr. Hibbert’s a fucking idiot. He should’ve known that Homer was perfectly fine.

Rating: 15/50 – Bad (3/10)

One of my most hated Simpsons episodes of all time – yes, very close to episodes like Kill the Alligator and Run. The plot is unnecessarily sappy and the music makes me want to down alcoholic beverages. The sushi though looked good though, but otherwise, this episode blows.
